London Fashion Week Designers: Holly Fulton

Holly Fulton Spring 2011 Ready-to-WearHolly Fulton is named after its brand’s designer who studied at the Edinburgh College of Art and The Royal College of Art. Holly Fulton’s collections never fail to impress as they are always full of print, colour, crystal embellishments and amazing accessories. Holly Fultons collection is full of pieces made from luxurious fabrics, ranging from wools, snake skin to silks. For her SS2011 collection, Holly Fulton found her inspiration from Nicholas Krushenick, Memphis design and Joan Collins on a cruise circa 1967.

Holly Fulton Spring 2011 Ready-to-WearHolly Fulton’s collection is full of her signature bold prints. Inspired by Nicholas Krushenick art deco, these prints ring a bell of tribal ethnicity. I also felt that her prints reminded me of Atlantis city. This is because of the cool blues she uses and the architectural resemblance on her prints. Furthermore, her prints her full of carefully planned geometrical shapes and also they are very symmetrical. The use of  black liner print within her prints make her pieces become vibrant in order for them stand out and make then extremely bold. Holly Fulton is infamous for using accessories to enhance her collection is also uses haberdashery such as crystals and sequences in order to highlight some of her prints that are often silk printing.

Holly Fulton Spring 2011 Ready-to-WearHer inspiration of Joan Collins on a cruise circa 1967 is highlighted by the way the pieces look glamorous, and timeless and also through the models volumised hair. The high waist of the skirts enhances the shape of the female torso and the pieces present a variation of tight and loose form fitting making some of the straight silhouettes look 1960’s flapper girl. She styled her clothes with one colored tight tank tops with high waist colorful skirts. The use of using a plain tank top enhances the boldness of the skirt prints and makes the skirts stand out . Holly Fulton uses a range of colour palette with bright and cool tones blended in with a softer colour palette which made some of the designs look classical.

Holly Fulton Spring 2011 Ready-to-WearHolly Fulton used numerous textures making her collection very versatile, using leather for her full skirts and dresses, silks for her dresses and trousers, using feather embellishments to add volume to her skirt and swimsuit outfit. Holly Fulton made her collection very young and vibrant, her prints and use of colour makes her collection look exciting. It is obvious that her targeted market is for females who are ready to grab the summer cruise with both hands. I see the females who may opt to wear her collection to be powerful, bold, smart, edgy and full of confidence.
