The Jill Stuart Collection began in 1993 with accessories and innovations such as the fashion backpack, cocktail mini dresses and plaid kilt skirts. In 1995 she had her collection used in the movie clueless.

In 2007, Stuart launched a secondary line called Jill by Jill Stuart - now exclusive to the Japanese and Korean markets - followed by a lower-priced collection of dresses under the name Jill Jill Stuart in 2010, available at major department stores like Macy's and Bloomingdale's.In her 2009 Fall collection, Jill Stuart’s collection was inspired by "iconic women of music."
